Free this month: Your Protein Number, the one-page sheet
About

I'm a few years ahead of you.

Not the expert. The woman who went through it first, asked a lot of questions, and wrote down what worked.

Lori Allred

I'm Lori. I'm 52, I live in Utah, and I've been married to an orthopedic surgeon for more than twenty years. I've cared about my health since I was a teenager, and I've always come at it the whole-body way: food, sleep, movement, how it all fits together, not one pill for one problem.

Then perimenopause arrived, and my body stopped feeling like mine. I felt like my metabolism had quit on me. I was eating less than I ever had and nothing was moving. I didn't have a name for what I was feeling, let alone know that protein had anything to do with it.

So Darin and I started reading. What the research kept showing was that metabolism isn't one thing that fails in your forties. It's the system underneath everything: energy, hormones, sleep, muscle, mood. Weight is one piece of it, and not the biggest one.

That's why we co-founded Basal Health, a metabolic health company, and why we built Unlock Strong, a lifting program for women like me. I am not on a GLP-1. I eat my protein number, I lift heavy two or three days a week, and I'm stronger at 52 than I was at 40.

Everything on this site is what I do, with the science my husband checks behind me. Where I'm selling something, I'll say so first.

xx, Lori
